So I was walking downtown the other day trying to find myself another winter jacket or vest since I’ve been wearing the same one for a week straight. I needed to find myself something new so that I can change up my look once or twice this Winter. I went inside this little store on Mulberry Street and got a surprise I wasn’t expecting. I found something I liked. Apparently Penfield has been making jackets and such since 1975 but I’ve never heard of them before and now I wish I had. They make awesome vests, jackets and coats with a little bear symbol that continually catches my eye. I went in the store looking for a jacket but I left with a couple. Here’s what I got.
I got this country styled jacket they call the Colwood in olive. Looks great and fits me like a glove should. Its made completely out of nylon so I shouldn’t be too worried if the weather starts to change on me. It has a quilted design on it that makes it look almost vintage but sturdy. I have to say that my favorite part is the corduroy that they blended in the collar. It has waist adjusters and storm flaps on each side just in case the wind picks up. The perfect thing to wear when you’re not sure if the weatherman was lying to you in the morning. At $155 dollars, a bit steep but for the quality involved in the piece it’s almost a bargain.
The Kasson in Cobalt (which apparently is a blue) was the other thing I got. It’s this really neat looking parka that looked extremely comfortable since the moment I first picked it up. It has two breast pockets and four hand pockets at the bottom and it’s completely waterproof so you can keep your phone safe when it snows again. Has a really cool plaid lining inside which really accents the color when you leave the jacket open. I love the contrast in color because it’s always optional and really gives the jacket a look of luxury in my opinion. Even though it might be on the expensive side, for $195, it is well worth the investment seeing that most coats are in the same range anyways.
I was going to get what they call the Rockwool Vest in a Navy color with a fur lined collar. It looked great since you can see a contrast in the denim-like fabric used with the light stained leather in the breast plate. But at $280 dollars, I said no thank you. I could easily get something similar at Levis for half the price. I never understood why they charge so much more for something that doesn’t even have sleeves. The ration escapes me. But nevertheless it’s a beautiful piece and if you’re willing to drop the serious cash for it, I definitely recommend it.
Below I included the items I purchased along with other things that you may be interested in that come in similar styles.
