Dogfighting For Jackets

Mouton Collar Jackets have been very popular for years. Usually seen in cult-classic WWII era inspired pilot films, they’re back this season more so than ever before. Usually coming in leather with shearling they’re warm, built to last for a very long time and probably will be in style for years to come. Finding one in times past would have been very difficult and when you did it was usually rather expensive.
Now this Fall, they’re back out again and can be very affordable depending all on the quality of leather you purchase. Some stores sell them for very cheap prices but the quality can be very low. Which is good if you are just buying one for the fall and planning on never wearing it again. But why would you do that? Spend a couple of dollars more and buy yourself a piece of quality. After all, it is in fact a statement you are making by wearing one in the first place. Don’t settle for less when I’ve done the searching for you. Here I’ve found a couple of jackets that are affordable but that’ll last you past this season. A couple of notes on things you might consider when purchasing this jacket. The built quality is very important. Before buying a Mouton Jacket or any other piece of clothing in the future you have to take into consideration its built quality. Most people do not pay attention to the way the jacket is made, putting their trust on the manufacturer. You work hard for each dollar you have, make sure you’re getting your value. Some retail stores will sell you absolutely anything for less than a meal at a restaurant. But with the low prices comes low built quality. Jackets that will start separating at the seems if you move to often or really cheap leather that’ll scratch easily. Why do it? 20 bucks is 20 bucks. It all adds up at the end when you fall in love with thejacket but it starts to deteriorate within the month. Another point of consideration is always fit. This might be the most important one. I cannot stress enough that men these days usually do not know their proper size for just about anything. In the olden days, men used to visit their tailor and that person used to make the jacket to fit you. There was never a need to know proper size since you paid someone to do it for you. Now it is believed that only people with money can afford a tailor. This is not true, there are plenty of tailors that are easily affordable and usually will “fit” you for free if you ask nice enough.
But I’m not telling you to pick up a tailor before you buy anything. I’m merely stating that maybe you aren’t that “Medium” after all. If it’s been 5 years you probably aren’t the same size anymore. Try on the jacket! Make sure it hugs your shoulder not strangle or drape. The sleeves end at your wrist not on your elbows or nails and the waist is around the hips not your belly or butt. You can buy a $5,000 dollar jacket but you’ll still look ridiculous if it isn’t your size.
